In my sermon of 2nd July I shared with you some extracts from the famous poem of Maulana Hali about the deplorable condition of Muslims towards the end of the 19th century especially in India. I said that incha Allah I will continue on the same topic in the coming sermon. However due to unforeseen circumstances I was not able to do so last week. Moreover since then I have taken note of the closing speech of the present head of Jamaat Ahmadiyya mainstream which he delivered on the occasion of the Jalsa salana Germany on 27th June 2010. Therefore, today I have decided to make some comments of that speech to tell you how far is the distance between what is professed and what is practiced. It was a 58 minutes speech and a seven page translation in English has been posted on www.alislam.org. All extracts are taken from there. Members will recall that last year in a short article addressed to the caliph I asked him eight questions following his closing speech on the occasion of the Jalsa Salana in the UK. Unfortunately neither the caliph nor any of his close lieutenants nor any of the champions of the Jamaat in Mauritius dared to take their pen to reply to the questions asked. The idolaters in the time of the Holy Prophet Mohammad saw were struck with fear that Allah had put into their heart. Allah says in the Holy Quran: “And
we shall cast terror into the hearts of those that have disbelieved
because they associate partners with Allah for which He has sent down no
authority. Their abode is Fire; and evil is the habitation of the
wrongdoers.”(3:152) But Ahmadis are of course believers and as such they should have Allah as their Protector and they should not be afraid of anyone besides Allah. They have recognized the Promised Messiah and they think that even unislamic practices are allowed for them provided that it is sanctioned by their caliph. Hence they should have shown some real boldness and reply to all objections that are made upon them and their caliphs. But it seems that they are afraid at heart and they dare not try to refute what I have been saying. They prefer to ignore what I have been telling them pretending that it does not exist. Meanwhile they go about institutionalizing unislamic practices condemned by the Holy Quran and the Sunna of the Holy Prophet Mohammadsaw and also by the Promised Messiah. So at the very beginning of his speech the caliph says: “We can never say that He used to bestow Prophethood and
Khilafat, but He is not capable of doing that anymore. He has all the
power to bless anyone with the status of converse with Him. In this age,
He has proven this by elevating the Promised Messiah (peace be on him) to
be the Khatamul-Khulafa, the
best of the Khulafa. The God
who has sent the Promised Messiah as, He will definitely
fulfill the promises made by Him. He is the God, who will definitely
listen to the prayers of followers of His Messiah. He definitely listens,
just as He always listened in the past.” A little further he says: “The powers of our beloved Allah can again express themselves like they have ever done in the past. These powers do manifest themselves in the present as well. The way He used to send the messengers towards lost nations to guide them towards the right path, in the same way, He has sent the messenger for the present age as well. But the way He used to do is that sometimes He sent the law bearing prophets and sometimes follower prophets. But after the advent of Muhammadsaw and the gift of the Holy Qur’an, he sealed and completed the religion for us. He has given the complete teachings for every human till the end of times. Even after these teachings, He can converse with a true follower of Muhammadsaw, and He can still elevate him to prophethood. He guided the Promised Messiahas to this level, he elevated him to Prophethood so that he could preach the world about far forgotten teachings of Muhammadsaw , so that he could remind the world about true meaning of “There is none worthy of worship except Allah” He could tell the world that the powers of Almighty Allah are still His domain. He let the world see that He can still send His messenger to this world by listening to the prayers of His followers who will make people realize the true teachings of beloved Allah.” As an Ahmadi we are in total agreement with the caliph in this statement. However just like the majority of Muslims restricts the meaning of Khatam to the Holy Prophet Mohammad saw with a view to end all blessings with him so the caliph also restricts the term of Khatamal Kholafa to Hazrat Masih Maood as with a view to end all the blessings with him. If that were the case we might justifiably ask why is it that Hazrat Masih Maoodas has told us that if we faithfully observe our bai’at we will be imbibed with the blessings that he received. He has told us that the blessings of revelations are open for those whom Allah knows are pure of heart. He has told us that the blessings of revelations will be manifested to many other persons in his Jamaat till the day of Judgment provided they are loyal to the letter and spirit of his teachings. For each of these statements I have in the past quoted the references from the works of Hazrat Masih Maoodas. If on the one hand the majority of Muslims failed to accept the Promised Messiah because they could not understand his rank in the eyes of Allah, is not Jamaat Ahmadiyya making the same mistake by failing to accept he who says that he comes from Allah within the Jamaat of Hazrat Masih Maoodas. The Jamaat’s second caliph bequeathed it a system of khilafat and now the Jamaat adamantly clings to this system thinking that it has Allah’s approval. But has Allah ever conveyed this approval to the caliph? If yes the caliph should inform the world about it. His silence keeps many Ahmadis in doubt. It is his duty to remove these doubts. By the Grace of Allah when we refer to the writings of Hazrat Masih Maood as we find our stand to be very clear just like Ahmadi beliefs are very clear vis a vis the other Muslims. But unfortunately the mainstream Ahmadis are trying their best to ignore the Promised Messiah’s teachings because they prefer those teachings that came after him. Hazrat Masih Maoodas is khatamul khulafa in the same way that Hazrat Mohammad saw is khataman Nabiyyeen. Hazrat Masih has explained to us how by following Hazrat Mohammad saw one may be given the title of prophet or Messenger by Allah. Through their paucity of knowledge the majority of Muslims think that such a statement is contrary to the spirit of Islam because according to them Allah has proclaimed the Holy Prophet Mohammad saw to be the seal of the prophets (Khataman nabiyyeen). So they think that within the umma there cannot be any prophet. But according to Hazrat Masih Maood as and many other great Muslim divines before him such a possibility is not at all contrary to the high and unparalleled rank of the Holy Prophet Mohammad saw. However if such a prophet ever comes he will have to work according to the Shariah brought by the Holy Prophet Mohammadsaw. He will not bring any new Shariah. In the case of the Ahmadis there is a slight nuance. They say that since Allah declared Hazrat Ahmad as to be the seal of caliphs ( khatamul kholafa) caliphs will come only from his Jamaat. Up till here this might be taken to be a fair view. But when they say that the system of khilafat established within the Jamaat is what has replaced the arrival of any appointee by Allah, they have distorted not only the teachings of the Promised Messiah but that of the Holy Quran as well. So if the caliph declares in front of the world that Allah can talk with His Chosen Ones even today, he is mistaken if he wants the people to believe that his “today” has stopped with the arrival of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as 120 years ago. In the writings of Hazrat Masih Maood as there are ample proofs to show that Jamaat Ahmadiyya should expect the manifestation of one or more people from Allah almost every hundred years. Today it is a well known fact that the third caliph Mirza Nasir Ahmad(1909-1982) and several scholars of the Jamaat made plenty of speeches to make the Jamaat understand that they should not expect anyone from Allah because there is a system of khilafat. But now we have come to know that even at that time one of the sons of the second caliph Mirza Rafi Ahmad (1928-2004) wrote to the caliph to tell him that his standpoint on this matter was against the Holy Quran and against the teachings of Hazrat Masih Maoodas. But as usual the voice of reason was swept aside by those who wanted to maintain the status quo. Any how this is another serious matter concerning which I am still making research. May be we will talk about it once we are aware of all its aspects. Since some time now I have been telling the Jamaat that Allah has revealed to me saying: “Yaa qutub uddin unzur ela Jamaa’ati “meaning “O Qutub uddin look after My Jamaat”. In another revelation Allah said to me “Inna ja’alnaaka linnase imama” which can be translated as “We have made you an Imam for the people or for mankind”. Similarly He said “ Boushra Lakoum Ya imamoul Muttaqeen” meaning “ Good news to you o Imam of the righteous”. There are many other similar revelations, some of which I have published and some which have not been published. Just to put all these in perspective I will quote from a four page document that has recently been posted on the Ahmadiyya Website entitled “Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih I on Ibn ‘Arabi.”. Among other things Hazrat Molvi Nurouddin is quoted as saying: I call Allah Almighty to witness and believe with a true heart upon the testimony of sight that doubtless these persons were those of whom it was said “And We made from among them leaders, who guided by Our command, whilst being steadfast and had firm faith in Our Signs. And their prayers of ‘and make each of us a leader of the righteous’ were certainly fulfilled. So very unfortunate are those who deny the leaders of men and are ignorant of the secret of ‘I will make thee a Leader of men.’ The state of their actions would testify against them if their natures were refined. We have read the many books of all of them with great diligence and we have reached the conclusion with utmost certainty on the basis of experience that all of these people were from those chosen by Almighty God to guide.” This is the light that Allah gave to Hazrat Molvi Nuruddin ra . Due to this light he was able to be more enlightened by touching the light that was given to Hazrat Masih Maood as. Allah granted him the wisdom to discern what Hazrat Masih Maood as was saying. He was of such a nature that Hazrat Masih Maood as lamented and wished that all other members of the Jamaat were like him. But he said that they would have been like him had their heart been filled “with the light of certainty”. But these days what do we see. We see most people’s hearts are filled with enmity, dirtiness, wishing ill of others. Most are paying chanda and make it a duty to renew their bai’at once a year in a new innovation known as the “Alami Bai’at” and they think that they have fulfilled their duties to Allah and to mankind. What a pity that Allah should try to elevate a group of people and they prefer to sink to the earth. So my humble advice to the caliph will be to go back to the books of Hazrat Masih Maood as and try to understand what he truly said and make your opinion about their merits or demerits. Then incha Allah you will know that Jamaat Ahmadiyya has been wrong in many instances and that a change of course is needed in order to remain true to the letter and spirit of the mission of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as. May Allah open the caliph’s heart to some fundamental truths of which he is unaware because he has not been blessed with teachers to initiate him into that lore. If he is well guided, it will be good for the Jamaat but if he persists on the path that he has chosen he will do more harm to Jamaat Ahmadiyya as a whole than good. May Allah guide leaders to His path and not to the path of their own choosing. Ameen |
